RE: check engine light mystery
When you figure out how to well and truly deal with the clear coat issues please let us know. I have clear coat problems on the top of the mirrors on the '94 and on the passenger's rear quarter on the Platinum that I think are left over from a bad repair at a body shop.
Since I blew a chunk of clear coat about the size of a silver dollar off of the rear quarter on the Platinum at the car wash I tried to feather the edges with some 600 wet/dry sandpaper (wet) and then I used (3M) rubbing compound and mirror glaze to clean it up. It is better but the platinum uses a three layer paint and the second layer came off with the clear coat so it sticks out as a bad repair. I have no clue as to howI can go about putting on a three layer paint as a spot repair.
I have the teal metallic paint on the '94 and I think I can just scrub up the top of the peeling areas with the wet/dry and then mask it off and put some new clear coat on it and then finish it off again with wet/dry and rubbing compound - mirror glaze - and wax.
I'mgood with mechanical things but body work and paint confound me every time.
