Hi there. Yesterday I got in my '96 850 GLT, turned it on, and discovered a problem. The blower is stuck on high and the CC panel doesn't respond.

I have ECC. Like I said, the blower is stuck on high, blowing cool air (as cool as it could get without the AC being on) as hard as it can. The air only comes through the top vents that I can tell. The recirculate switch doesn't work (I suspect it's drawing in fresh air), the AC switch doesn't work, and blower speed slider doesn't work, and temperature controls don't work, and the vent selector dial doesn't work.

The CC panel is getting power, as all of the background lights work. However, neither the recirculate light (when the recirc. button is engaged) nor the AC light (when the AC is off) come on.

The blower turns off when the car turns off, so there's no problem with it running after I turn it off. The blower stays on 100% for as long as I drive, so it's not like it's stuck in automatic.

I took the CC unit out and made sure everything was plugged in snuggly, which it was.


I'm kind of at a loss. I suppose I could take out the fuse that controls the blower (if someone could steer me towards a fuse diagram that says what they all do I'd greatly appreciate it), but there's still a few months of cold left.

Any help diagnosing the problem is greatly appreciated.

I hate to say, but your ECC head seems to be shot and needs to be replaced. The best way to get one is to find one at a junk yard.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I'll start searching for a new unit.

 

Okay, I've finally gotten around to looking for a replacement (now that it's getting into the eighties daily). I just wanted to confirm that the fault is most likely in this:



And also, mine is a 96, but from my research I've found that the electronic units were the same from 93-97. Is that true?

Okay, what I was trying to make sure of was is what's in the picture the ECC head? I get off track sometimes.

in mine the blower doesnt work at all and I dont have lights in the ecc the fuses are all good would I be looking at having to replace mine as well I am going to check the blower and that resistor as well also when I start my car the rec and the ac lights blink for a little while then go off I would think that I would need to replace that panel but I dont know for sure
