Cluster pwns me, more sadness
So tonight I decided to replace the ODO gear in the car.
Great! I thought.
It wasn't hard...took about an hour or two including smoke breaks and fiddling with other things, including figuring out how to take it apart.
I specifically bought a working odometer unit this summer for the sole purpose of seeing how it works before I rip into my cluster.
Great idea, because when I was going to roll the odometer forward to match the mileage, the little blue gears fell out and were a pain to get back in.
Screw that.
So I just used the gear from that one.
Also a good idea, because the little orange gear was stripped when I took my cluster out.
Win!
But no.
After I get the dash and everything back together, I realized I forgot to plug the odometer plug back onto the circuit board.
AND...I was going to remove the SERVICE light and they "Hey PETA yuppie, your tail light is burned out" light.
Epic fail!
The lifter tick is gone by the way. Still working on tackling this burning smell at idle.
The car is up for sale. I realized I need something small that gets over 30MPG. My 850 is averaging 20-21 according to the dash computer. It hit a high of 24.1 at one point and then leveled off. I am selling the car hopefully this weekend and picking up a bone stock 1997 Honda Del Sol SI VTEC. Its got 94k miles, black on black, and a five speed.
Yeah I know...a Honda. But I can't afford to fill up an 18 gallon tank anymore for $40 bucks and have it gone in a week, when I know I can get a Honda, which is a reliable car, and fill up every other week for the whopping sum of 25 bucks. I don't make a ton of money, and it will be a nice change of pace.
Things I will miss about the 850:
--The sound of the T5 engine
--The way my BOV sounds
--The odd way it handles on rails with crap tires and a horrible front passenger strut mount
--The look
--Creature comforts.
--And the rear brake squeal...cannot forget that one.
But hey...who knows. I am a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason. So, If I don't sell the car this weekend or relatively soon, I may have to keep it...darn. Not like I'm in a rush though.
So you're still stuck with my ***....for now.
Oh, and you don't have to take the needles off to get to the odometer like I have read around here.

I sold the car tonight.
Watching it drive away was kind of tough though, because I really, really loved it. Had its quirks but what 850 doesn't.
I'll still be around here.
I put a deposit on a Del Sol in Indianapolis, which is about 2.5 hours south of me. If it works out, cool, if not, I continue the hunt.
So thanks all for the help!
I have a large box of new or desirable 850 parts I'll post up in the next day or two for sale.
Its stuff I won't need anymore.
The next Volvo I get will be a 2006 S60R 6MT
