from tryingbe over at volvospeed, he sells turbos. But if that housing is different than the one on your car, which it probably is, you'll need a different DP.

The mystery is over....I just bought a 1995 850 T-5R. The first thing I did was do a compression test.

Results:
180 across the board.

Question B5254FS with 2 leaking cylinders -ouch

My V70, '98 threw a rod. Bought a replacement from a reputable wrecker who said :"A grade, good compression". Took a chance [buyer beware],
$600 + $140 freight, 101 day guarantee.

Just got it installed, with assorted new hoses, seals, "O" rings, water pump, etc, et cetera, and with a cold engine, got #1-175 psi, #2-200, #3-175, #4-180 [leaks down almost immediately] and #5-200 [also leaks fast!!]. Overall the compression is so bad that we [neighbor is a master mechanic] can't get her to fire!!

Now, what I really want are some sugestions: we will call the 'yard' tomorrow or so, and tell them the 'good news'. Of course the labor is on me, but what do we ask for in the way of an adjustment? Rick, my neighbor say they will probably offer a replacement which they should check more thouroughly. Further that 'they' [a third generation yard with a good reputation] should offer to replace and pay the freight both ways [if in fact they want the engine back a all].

Rick says that hereon, never again will I take a job using a major component from a wrecker "no matter what".

Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. While we were at it the steering rack also replaced, and much more, so I can't really look to junking the car, but it is draining me both in dollars and in loss of use.

Thanks for your input.

Ben

Hi Ben and welcome to the site.

I just did some reading about leak down and it said that if you have a fast leak down at two adjoining cylinders, you likely have a breach in the head gasket. So, maybe you just need a head gasket (and maybe have the head resurfaced).

"Another great feature of the C.L.T. is the fact that you can hear where the air is leaking out of the cylinder. When a cylinder has high percentage of leakage, first check the oil filler cap. Do you hear a hissing sound? If so, you may have pressure leaking by the rings. Is there air escaping out the exhaust? Is it escaping out the intake system? Then a burned valve may be the problem. If two adjoining cylinders have similar low readings and you hear leakage out the other cylinder, then a failed head gasket may be the problem. "
