Default Coolant leak

Hi there!

I've got a 95 850 wagon, 5 speed manual transmission. Currently, I've got a coolant leak that's been slow for the past two years, but has become worst in the last two weeks. Today, after driving about 80 miles from up north back to SF, the car leaked about three cups worth of coolant. I topped it off before leaving and while entering my house, the low coolant light came back on. I looked under the car and noticed that coolant seems to be leaking from the right side of the engine, around the transmission area.

In the past year, I've replaced the coolant pump, the lower and upper radiator hoses, rear main engine seal, and thermostat. There is no coolant in the oil, in fact, the oil on the dip stick looks insanely clean/clear.

Any suggestions as to where the coolant may be leaking from?

thanks,
jOn

Use a bottle of Bar's leak and keep an eye on it. Do not refill coolant too much. The pressure may find small cracks.

DONT DO THIS! Bars leak is crap in your radiator that you can never get out. Bars leak is if you dont care about your car. If you do dont do this. No offense stojakovic but this stuff is not good for your system.

If your leak is bad you should be able to find it...just keep looking. Problem areas in the back of the engine is the heater core lines. There is one that come out at the base of the head right over the top of the trans, start there. Then look at the others, you have five points to check on a Turbo and three on a N/A.

I think it's GOT to be the heater lines, but I can't get a good view of which. I didn't want to have to jack it up, how will I gain access to the lines? Are there any pictures of them? The coolant is INDEED leaking from the right side of the engine (transmission side). It seems to leak more so when I drive the car hard, i.e. high gear, accelerating quickly, etc.

Both those lines are in the picture above. One coming out of the block and the other is the smaller one without a hose on it.

That's the line! I jacked up the car, hose looks all jangled and funky. Only hose that hasn't been replaced. It looks like I will need to remove the air filter canister and a myriad of other stuff, so going to have the mechanic perform the work along with the cam shaft oil seal.

I'm glad to know that it's NOT a blown head gasket and a cruddy hose :-)
