tonight when i went out i noticed that i have no dash lights, no lights around the ac controls and no lights for anything else in the center console, yet the car turned on its headlights when i turned to switch them on. any ideas?

I would say bad dimmer switch or a blown fuse for the lighting.

 

I will assume that your dimmer slider is not all the way to the left. There is no fuse for the instrument lighting since the dimmer (rheostat) has circuitry to shut down the circuit in case of overload. Do the lights come on at all when youfirst start the car or are they dead all the time? If they illuminate briefly and then go out, you probably have a short. I just finished replacing some wiring in my dash to fix a short. If they do not come on at all, it could be the dimmer switch as tech says, or perhaps a wire is broken/severed.

well you were all right.... i have no idea why the switch was all the way to the left saying i dont drive it, my wife does, and she says she never moved it. either way thank you for your help i assumed it was something alot more complex and ignored the obvious
