Dash pad mid aligned
Hello guys!
My name is Paul and I just bought myself a 93 na 850 auto!! Just checking out the forums you guys seem like a very nice group! Quick question is it possible to align my dash pad any better? It is disconnected in some places and in others it just doesn't seem quite right? Pushing it down doesn't quite work. Thanks for the help!

My condolences. The rattling dashboard problem can really drive you nuts. If you search the forum you can find diagrams of where to locate the screws that hold the dashpad to the dashboard itself. You can try tightening these, but in my experience it's likely that the little clips that the screws tighten into have broken loose along with the shoddy plastic mounts that originally held them in place. It's also not totally unlikely that the entire dash assembly has broken loose from the firewall between the engine and passenger compartment.
There are directions in the forum for rebuilding these plastic/metal clips. I've done that and it works for a while. Another solution, which I resorted to just last week (because the rattling was again driving me nuts) is to go to a junk yard and buy a new dashpad that still has functioning retainers. $11 solved the problem, more or less, for now.
Regarding the larger trouble — the whole dashboard breaking loose — there are directions out there for removing a whole bunch of stuff (the steering wheel, etc.) and actually fixing the root cause. But (again, in the archives) there's a hack that works pretty well. It involves drilling some holes in the door frame near the side of the dash panel, then using a small piece of sturdy metal with some holes drilled into it to reattach the dash to at least some portion of the car frame. In my experience this results in a pretty major improvement without all the work involved in doing it the right way.

try pulling the vents out to see if the screws to the dash are missing or stripped. Seems somebody may have opened the dash (ie to get at the dash cluster). To pull the vent, slide a flat blade to press the vent gate to the side then rocker out that side. You should see a screw on the top side that goes to the dash cover. There's like 6 or 7 screws holding the cover down (search for vids/posts on how to pull the dash cluster to see where they are). That will allow you to rocker up the left 2/3rds of the cover without messing with the air bag to see what you'd need to do for r+r
