I lost both keys on my 96 850 glt. Ordered both keys and new remote from dealer from vin #. The dealership could not program with the typical five turns of ignition. They said they didnt know why it wasnt working. Wth out the remote I also noticed the keys did not work on dr. side door. I have to lock and unlock from pass. door. Also I am replacing the ignition switch, I have to tweek the key in order for the lights to come on and gearshift to engage. I will say the remote, button on top and bottom does not look anything like the one I got from the orig. owner w/ keys. I have followed up on all threads but this combination of problems is overwelming and very frustrating! Sorry for being so long but tried to answer all questions first. Help...

 

No problem RCV. The remote should have a FCC code on it, that code should match the FCC code on the remote control box behind the glove box. If those numbers don't match, make the stealer get you anotherone on them.

The ignition replacement is pretty easy. Takes less than an hour if you drink beer while you are doing it. Not sure what your issue with the door lock could be. :?

 

If you pull out the glove box the keyless entry/alarm control box is mounted to the fender side of the opening. It will have it's FCC number on an ID plate visible to you.

I know I screwed around with mine for a few days. I didn't have the most patience so it was fifteen minutes here and there but they finally synched. I have a problem with my tailgate electric lock being inoperative. I also tried lowering the drivers window and locking all the doors with the key before cycling the ignition and trying to sync the remotes as I came across a post recommending that. It's been a while and I don't remember what finally worked only that they are still intermittent. I'm not sure if that's because of the tailgate not functioning with the other doors or not.

 

Thanks RSPI and KISS4AFROG for your input. I'm just wondering if that faulty dr.side door lock as mentioned before has anything to do with programming the remote, It's a hassel to lock and unlock from the pass. side, athough my wife kind of likes the attention. I'm going to order the new remote w/ matching fcc # and also the ignition switch and take it from there. If anyone has any feedback on this matter feel free to jump in! Thanks!
