Default Is this the end of my alternator?

Two days ago I had no problems. Took the car to the garage, they replaced my axle seal. Picked up the car, but it was pooring with rain, so I didn't hear or notice anything different.
Started it up today and heard a really nansty sound. First I thought it was the drive belt, or the power steering pump, but then I turned off the car, switched the key to pos II and this is what I heard from the front:

I know it's highly unlikely but...is there a way to fix it, without buying a new one? A new one is a freaking $230...

I'm sad

But hang on a second...the engine is not running, only the ignition switch is on. The alternator shouldn't be working right? The belt is not running and yet this sound is there...Somebody please explain!

Okay I won't mess with it then.

So stupid of me to plug this wire, when I didn't know what it was for.
I broke the golden rule - "If it ain't broke - don't fix it!"
Thanks for your help, tech. I was just researching cheap alternators...

Well glad it is good now.
I unplugged mine as soon as I picked the car up.
I have to install the motors on the wifes car. But they are staying unplugged!!

i always love going to the local auto parts store ans asking for new wipers, pausing for a little bit, and then add in that they are for my head lights.
