would someone tell me what i need to do to my exhaust for straight piping-- does that mean pull the cat and insert straight pipe ?
sorry im clueless on that one

Basically, there is also the primary muffler about where the back seat would be that is very restrictive. So in essence replace the cat and that section and you would have a "straight pipe".

If your car is a turbo (and you're looking for actual HP gains), a cheap way to go about this is the OBX system on E-bay. It comes with 2 downpipes and you will be able to sell the angled-DP for about $150.

test pipes are what cat-delete pipes are usually called. straight pipes i assume could be used in the same way, but I usually hear it as replacing a muffler.

1. Make sure it is legal where you live to run mufflerless and catless.

2. If you want to do this remove the second muffler closer to the front of the car and the CAT. Then install a straight pipe.

3. FYI this really wont be worth anything unless you do the entire system. And if your car isn't turboed then it is really pointless to do. If you are turboed then do a 3" mandrel bent downpipe to a 2.5" to 3" mandrel bent catback system. And just replace the CAT with a straight pipe and one muffler at the very end of the system but make sure it is a performance muffler that is a straight through design like BORLA or MAGNAFLOW.

Running a 2.25 restrictive straight pipe your going to see minimal gains at best. I would just get an OBX if you want a cheap but quality fix.

I removed my OEM muffler and added 2 1/2 from the Cat back. I put a Flowmaster in place of the OEM and a straight through glass pack at the tip. Quiet and rumbly. I like it and I DID notice a difference in spool time. I just bought a 3" downpipe so I will let you know what that feels like when added. Dont hold your breath though, it will be awhile before I can find the time.

So does removing the cat trip the check engine light on the OBDII cars? I just gutted the cat on my wife's 1994 850 turbo wagon and so far so good. I gutted it because i thought it was plugged (it wasn't). The whole system is rotten as could be and I need to replace everything all the way to the tip. Same with my 1996 850 turbo wagon.

you can get a tune to disable the rear sensor.
I believe there is O2 sensor bungs that are designed to trick the sensor.

yeah, spark plug foulers will work to retard the distance between sensor and flow. You can even drill out a spark plug to a 1/2in and it should thread right up

I assume could be used in the same way, but I usually hear it as replacing a muffler.
