Default few questions

hey all...im a vw guy, but my dad has a 96 850 "sportswagon"...hes getting a new saab 9-7 in about a week or so as a company car, so i was going to buy the 850 from the company for trade in or less, and then re-sell it for a profit.

the car needs

ABS module
Ignition switch
glove box stuff

the ABS light and Tracs light come on and off. I was told it needs an ABS module, but after searching around a bit it seems as tho a bad ignition switch could also have something to do with this...am i right?

my question here is: are all 850s basically the same, meaning can I grab an ABS module from a 94 and use it in this 96? I would assume so but you never know.

Also has anyone ever done an ignition switch? Ive never done it in any car, so just curious as to whats involved. Im sure u know what happened to the glove box cause i saw the sticky up top.

thanks for the help.

Why not just have the ABS module rebuilt for less than $100.00?
Also the ABS module will depend on the options your car has. Match numbers if you go that way.

If the ignition switch was bad it will also keep the SRS light on as well as the ABS.

The switch is easy. Once the Black covers are off the electrical part is only held in with 2 screws.

You should be able to fix the Glove box from the sticky.

http://www.eeuroparts.com has the best price on the ig. switch... FYI.
As tech mentioned, it is very easy. 99% of all screws/bolts on the Volvo will be Torx head; another FYI.

The usual symptoms of a bad ig. sw. is that you can't get out of park, no headlights, and no tach. Jiggle the key and that normally will make things work.

can you replace just the ignition switch, is it separate from the key poer or does that have to be swapped too?

What goes in them, do the contacts inside get fouled up? anyone try servicing one?

Yes you can replace only the electrical part of the switch.

The inside is what wears out and is not servicable.

It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to replace for the first 10 times you do them.

You need an E-5 or 6 to remove the 4 screws. 2 plugs and it is out.
