I have a 1994 volvo 850 non turbo, we bought it for my sister and got five miles from the air port and the car broke down soo we asked the guy for our money back and a year later the car showed up at our house. We know the rear main seal is bad. I was wondering how hard is it to do a rear main seal your self. because me and my buddies are planning on doing the rear main seal this winter..

ya gotta remove the tranny then the flywheel fo access the seal, a pain if you're workin on your back

are you sure it is the rear crank seal leaking?

 

I am not completely sure yet. I just got the car rnning again today. after the car was ran for a little while and got up to running temperature motor oil would leak out. I havent got under the car while it has been running and look at it because i got it running and it was already dark out. So after school im going to check it out further.

 

OK see what side it is coming from Drivers side or passenger side.

If it is the Rear main seal it will be a major pain.
You will have to make an engine craddle to hold the engine while you drop the transmission.

Hopefully it is a cam seal or something like that.
