Default First 850

I just purchased a 850 turbo. We had a 740 sedan back in the mid 90's that was stolen never to be found. It was a great car so I hope this purchase will live up to the last Volvo. After reading on here I know I have some areas that need attention on the 850. One of the first things I want to fix is yesterday it threw a check engine at me with codes p1310 , p0301. The car has brand new Volvo plugs, cap and rotor and new Bougicord wires with a manufacture date of 09/07. What other things could cause those codes ????? thanks Brian

Could be many things. When mine threw a P0301 I had a bad valve. Could be as simple as bad wire or plug, even though they are new.

Just throwing this out there without looking up your codes...have you ruled out any vacuum leaks? Stinkin' vacuum leaks can cause a whole slew of codes to pop up.

If it were a valve, Would a compression test show that.? What am I looking at in cost to replace valves..?

First thing I would do is clear the codes and see if they come back. If they do I would suspect what ever had recently changed (i.e. plugs, wires, etc) as a possible culprit. Go from there.

Please keep us posted. And yes, a compression test would show a leaky valve.

Bad valve is almost worst case scenario. With worst being piston rings. If compression shows low do a wet compression. If still low it's valves. Start with simplist first though.
