Everything works fine and the car has 240,000 miles on it but in the past few years the electrical system seems tobe going. It may have to do with the computer but would like to see what everyone thought. So, the cruise control does'nt really work. Well it works but everytime you hit a bump it quits and when you hit another it works again. The bumps also effect the stereo system's volume. It goes up and down. Down when the Cruise doesn't work and back up when it does. This was going on for several months and the mechanics couldn't diagnose it because they couldn't drive it long enough to have it happen.

Now the stereo is going bad as well. The fuse has been changed but now it doesn't turn on sometimes. And other times it does turn on and ask for the code. But when you type in the code it slowly dies...kind of clicking while it does.

I would like to tackle the stereo problem first but wonder if it is connected to the cruise.

Is your stereo one of the Premium Sound units with an amp?

I had a problem with the wiring harness being chaffed where it rides on the (very sharp) edge of the amplifier. It was also intermittent and a real bear to track down. Most electrical problems are tough to find but very easy to fix - once you find the problem.

These schematics are in a very cryptic form but they are very accurate and they show all of the branching and connecting points - you need to flip back and forth to the "decoder ring" at the back to figure out what component is what. The server is in Poland and it is very slow:

Click on the "Schematy" link and the menu will come up in English. You may want to grab 2 or 3 years worth since some of the scans are incomplete.

It is the premium sound unit with a cd player. Checked the site there wasn't a listing for some reason...
