FMIC install
Thanks in advance for any help and advice. I have a fmic intercooler, piping, silicone elbows, t clamps and bov from another project and never used it. My question is if I installed it with no other mods ( stock engine, exhaust, intake) would there be any noticeable improvements in power or mpg over our stock intercooler that we have? I've tried to search for threads regarding this no luck as of yet. 97 glt auto
I've never know an intercooler to increase gas mileage. It's usually because the modification goes with other modifications and a heavy foot to play with the increased power (bigger turbo). I don't think it would do anything to help the engine be more efficient all by itself at least not anything noticeable.
As for increased power ?? Again by itself it's likely not going to be noticeable. A good FMIC will flow more and also run a little cooler as it's getting the air first. But in a stock set up the stock intercooler works OK and even when the turbos are increased. The intercooler doesn't seem to be a limiting component. When you mount a bigger turbo and get an opened up exhaust you'll see power but not gas mileage.
You'd likely see more of a mileage gain by putting in a K&N flat panel air filter and babying that throttle
But what's the fun in that ??
