I'm at my wits end...
I'm trying to install front fog light in my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT that is pre-wired for the front fog lights. So I went to the salvage yard and picked up a front fog light switch pn:9128536, a light relay pn:9148880, a plug with fog light pn:9148991, and a "J" relay pn:9130269. I plugged the "J" relay into the top left corner outlet on the relay panel underneath the dashboard. I plugged the "plug with fog light" into the bottom middle lime green outlet in the same relay panel. I replaced my current "light relay" under the hood next to the fuse box with pn:9148880. With my key in, turned to acc., head lights on, front fog light switch on - I get no power to the front fog light plugs that are in the front near the bumper. Nor a light on the front fog light switch.

If someone could please tell me what I'm missing I would be eternally greatful.
Thank you for your time and help.

There is 2 relays under the dash you need as well as the headlight relay under the hood.

tech - thank you for the help

I'm not sure how careful you read my post, but I did plug two relays under the dash and one under the hood.

There always was a 15A fuse in spot 18 - "front fog lamps/spot lamps". I've checked it and it is good. The terminal closest to the firewall is always powered.

There is a yellow plug underneath the dash, by the relay panel where I plugged in the relays. Does that plug need to be plugged into something?

Thanks

On some of the cars yes on others no.
I believe on the ones with the yellow plug the switch plugs into it.

I did plug the front fog light switch into a yellow plug behind a blank in the dash next to the lock switch. The plug that I am referring is a yellow plug under the dash, clipped to a relay panel. I'm wondering if it needs to be plugged in. When I get a chance to look under the dash again I'll look around for a place where it could be plugged into.

Thanks.

You can also change the position of the pins in the block to make the foglights work with the parking lights only.

Also you need to make sure the headlight relay is for one with Fogs as well.
I finally got the fog lights to work after much work and after taking apart the switch to realized the switch was not functioning properly. But after all of that I would like to respond to this statement and I would like to ask how you switch the pins to get the fog lights to work with the parking lights because that is what I would like to do. I took apart the "plug with foglight" pn: 9148991 which is one piece of metal bent to 90 degrees. It looks like there is only one other way to put the metal piece/pins in and that would be 180 degrees or the mirror opposite. Please let me know if I am correct or if there is another orientation that I need to place the pins in to have the fog lights work with the parking lights. Thank you very much for all of your help.

I cannot find the link right now. But yes you take the 90 out and turn it to make them work that way.

Sorry to resurrect this thread here.

The previous info is helpful, but seems that my issue might/should be much easier to diagnose. On my 855 R ( came with stock front fogs ) They have always worked. A few weeks ago i was doing the odometer gear, changing some bulbs here and there, and out of know where both front fogs quit working. I do have a "bulb failure" warning light on the dash, But i cant seem to fig it out. I almost think the relay fell out and into some black hole! On the relay bank under the dash, there's a white relay that is labeled "fog lights" and says "jumper" on it. This is the one that is modified to make the fog lights independent of the headlights. So where is the actual fog light "relay" ? ( and why did i think it was green? lol )

See photo of bank:

Any idea on where to go next? The light on the switch does come on.

Did you make sure you have no power at the foglights?
Might just be ironic and both bulbs blew out.
