Found a really clean t5-r wagon
Hi guys i've forunsd a one owner clean t5-r wagon but he's asking 8600 for it and it hasn't had a timing belt change or a couple other things done to it but it is clean. The reason he is asking this price is because he's seen a mint one in autotrader for 10k with 149k on it.I need some help with the nego because I don't want to pay more than 7k for it.

Hey now,
With 106,000mi on the clock and no belt change, knock $400 off the asking price. Down to $8200.
What other service is required? Will the car require news brakes? At over 100K mi. I would think so. PCV system will need to be inspected and or replaced if it hasn't been done. Subtract another $600 if getting a shop to do the work. Down to $7600 [sm=signs007.gif].
Does he have ANY service records for the years he has owned the car? If the answer is no, even for an oil change, remove another $800. Down to $6800 [sm=happy046.gif].
How does he know that the car in the autotrader was mint? Because the ad said so? W.G.A.S.
Reality bites. If he really wants to sell the car, and get his price, he better have birth records for the car otherwise, if you have the $7K in cash in your pocket, show him the cash and tell him this is the best you can do. No matter what they say, actually seeing the cash, can persuade people to change their mind. Especially if they reallywant the money.
Keep us updated and go knock that price down.[sm=smiley20.gif]

He is asking about $3,000 too much for that car. I probably would not even pay for an inspection with him being priced that high. To say he saw one for sale for $10K is one thing, but did it sell for that? I will put mine up for sale for $12K, but is anybody going to buy it for that? I highly doubt it. I just did a KBB price lookup and the Private Party in Excellent condition is $5570 and retail on it is only $7190 and nobody pays retail.

i think I heard about some jack rabbit asking for a million $$$ for a rusty one. so what...
the blue books, etc. all say that he is roughly $3k over priced (even more $$$ off if the major mechanical service/maintenence is not kept up)
let him keep it. and you can keep you money and find someone who took care or their volvo!
good luck!
