Default Fuel door release

I went to put gas in the car today (94 wagon) and couldnt get the gas door open. it appears that theres a latch that catches the fuel door that you need to pull from inside. the problem is, i dont think i HAVE a fuel door pull inside the car.

Any ideas?

Take the cover off the right taillight from inside, same process when changing the light bulb. There should be a handle/hook you can pull. Motor might be out that unlocks it.

but why would it be locked? It's never locked before. How do you unlock it? I was able to get it open, but i need to know what you are supposed to do in order to get it to release.

Your fuel filler door is supposed to lock every time you lock your car doors, and unlock again
when you unlock your doors.

Its part of your central locking system. If it is not unlocking with the rest of the door locks then you either have a faulty actuator or its getting hung up on the door tab.
Stand at the gas door with the gas door open then lock and unlock your car. You should see the pin come in from the rear of the opening.
