I changed the fuel filter 2-3 months ago. I didn't have to pull the fuel pump, but I did relieve the fuel pressure first. I actually don't recall exactly how I did it -- maybe pulled the fuse for the fuel pump, started the car and let it die? Or just open the Fill Cap? I service 2-3 vehicles at one time and just go by the specific book on each one.

But definitely you do not need to pull the pump. Look at the section "Relieving the Fuel pressure" in the book.

Yes, release the pressure or you'll get sprayed. You release the pressure at the end of the injector rail. There is a connector similar to a bike tube connection. Use a rag or jar to catch the fuel.
Once the pressure is released you can replace the fuel filter thats under the car on the right side by the rear tire. The lines are press on but you have to compress the fitting to release the line. The book should explain, its pretty easy.

You're gonna get some fuel dumped on you either way - its just a matter of whether you want it dripped on you or SPRAYED on you. I'd definitely relieve the pressure like boxpin said. It only takes a couple seconds.
