Fuel Leak
Hello All,
After doing a complete rear subframe drop, i replaced all the rotted gas lines, and i replaced my fuel sending unit, and got it all back together, everything worked perfectly, however i lost my gas cap at first fillup. About a week ago, i tanked up, as i pulled back into my driveway i noticed a trail of gas following me. As i drove the car, the tank emptied and it got better. Once i was down to about 30L it didnt leak at all anymore, since then ive been putting 25dollars in at a time and it doesnt leak at all anymore..
Could not having a gas cap lead to huge leaks when the tank is full.. If no any other sugestions what it could be.
Car: 850 AWD
Thanks

It sounds like you either have a crack in the rubber vent lines that run up the the hard lines in the fuel filler neck (unless you changed them too), OR the seal on the Fuel sender unit you replaced needs to be changed, OR you just need to tighten the sender unit down.
The hoses seem pretty common, and the gasket issue is a common problem when doing to fuel pump it seems. I have the same issue since the last owner replaced the fuel pump on my car just before i bought it. I replaced the hoses to find it was only the gasket... which i still havnt bothered to do...
Im not positive how the sender goes to the tank, but if its similar to the pump, or has a rubber gasket between whatever attaches it and the tank (big ring nut like the fuel pump?) I would replace the gasket. FCP has them pretty cheap.
Let me know how it works out. Good luck

thats a really good idea about the fuel sending unit being loose, but seeing as the fuel sending unit goes in on the side of the tank you would surely see it leaking from there.. it really looks like its on the top back of the tank its leaking. i have no idea what it could be i remember putting everything pretty tight.
