Gas Fumes Smell after Fill-up
If I fill my car up to the point that the gas pump burps itself, my car will make my garage smell like gas until I drive my car for like 15 miles. My car has done this as long as I can remember and I have gotten used to it (not used to the smell , but rather learned to stop filling before its brimming full), but it is a tad irritating at times. Is there a seal or something at the top of my gas tank that could have gone bad and leaks gas a bit when its brimming full? Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks in advance!

But, I still may check just to see if that recall applies, and then go to another dealership.

You can view the recall here, it has a description with pictures of the recall, so you can inspect yours and figure out if it might apply:

But most likely, as Matty said, you have a bad rubber line above the tank. It is definitely a hazard. When I did mine, I bought the actual replacement line from FCP. I dunno about JB Weld holding rubber hoses together like the guy in the linked thread. :P

I don't feel like doing that! lol
Thanks for showing me though!
Hmm, how much of a hazard is this? Apparently (according to my parents), the car has been doing this for years, and I can tell you that the car does not make fumes inside the passenger cabin, just outside the car. It seems to be more of an inconvenience than anything, for I just have to either fill up in the morning so that I can drain the tank a bit by driving throughout the day before putting it in the garage and/or just leaving it out overnight after I fill it up so that it doesn't smell like gas in the garage. But, if it is a great hazard, I'd like to have someone look at it.

Or, you smell gas so you have gas fumes. Gas fumes are flammable. I'd have it checked out especially if you park in a garage. It's the thing that almost never happens but get enough fumes and hit the garage door opener or the light switch and get a little spark and all of a sudden you have a big skylight where you used to have roof

Hi there,
there is a recall on volvo 850 gas tanks, I think it spans from 95-97 due to a defect in the heat shield that causes a small rupture and leak. I would suggest that you call your local dealer and mention the recall, they are obligated to inspect it and repair for free ... in any sense even if the tank is okay, they may tell you what the problem is at least.
