Getting an 850, need advice on importing and other stuff.
Hey guys, I'm buying my uncles '95 850 Turbo. I've got a few questions about importing cars from the US to Canada. I not sure how many of you have done this, but I need to know what's involved. What are the taxes and fees like? What do I need to change in terms of clusters? I know I have to change to DRL (daytime running lights) and I need to change the speedo to km instead of miles. Does the dealer sell a plate with the correct conversion or do I need to change the entire cluster? Can I keep the same "miles" odometer? Also, do I need to change the boost gauges as well? PSI => KG/Scm. How do I change to daytime running lights?
Ok, now on to the performance stuff. I use to drive a '94 BMW 3 series which I raced at the track, it had a lot of suspension work done and I got it down to around 2500lbs. I don't expect a FWD car to handle as well, especially for it's size and weight. I never leave my cars stock, so I want to know how the 850 wagon handles with upgraded sway bars and lowered stiffer suspension. I'm thinking of going with H&R and Bilstein with 17" rims. Are these cars trackable? Also, do the headlights have projectors? What are the bulb sockets?
As for exterior, I want the 850R front bumper with the CF BTCC front lip, are these difficult to come by? Any aftermarket stuff?
Also, the AC is dead, how much will a compressor run me? Any suggestions on places to get them?
Last question (promise). I know the 850 Turbo and T5 have 222 HP. Can I get the 240HP from the T5R just from changing the computer to motronic 4.4? What are the major differences between the T5 and the T5R? Did they up the boost?
