Default Getting a spare key

Hey guys, found this listing for an uncut key for $10.

http://www.dragtimes.com/parts/1993-...449812299.html

Question... is it just that easy? Get an uncut key and then take it to a key-cutting shop or dealership and they'll copy my key onto this one?

Thanks.

yup. Our older cars don't have a security chip buried in the handle like the new ones, so you just need to find someone that can cut it - some can and some can't. I'd make some calls before you go driving around town!

Stopped by the dealership not far from my house (Rickenbaugh - anyone know it?) and they want to charge me $25 to "laser cut" the key. Seems high.

Anyone tried a regular key shop? I've got the "slug" already, picked that up for cheap... so if I can get this cut, I could really make out good on this.

Hello TacklaNHL !
I was in the same position as you. I bought 2 keys from EBAY at $10.00 each in the hope I could find a locksmith to cut the keys. This was useless in my situation. I live in a rural area and no local locksmith owned the type of 'laser cutting machine' capable of duplicating the key for my 1995 Volvo GLT. After months of searching for a capable locksmith, I finally went to the Volvo dealership. They created two keys for me. The cost was $67.00 for both. The refused to 'cut' any key other than their own. The reason given to me was they had no idea what type of metal the aftermarket keys were made from and they would not risk damaging their machine.
In the end I simply accepted the high cost for keys as part of the cost of owning a Volvo. I cut costs on as many things I can but also realize that sometimes I must pay full price for some things.

Hey don't feel bad about 67 bucks for 2 keys. The replacement cost for ONE key on our honda is about $130.
