Default hard start

HI guys

I'm a proud owner of a 5 cyl non turbo petrol engine 1995 Volvo 850 estate
I sometimes experience difficulty in starting my car
It sometimes realy fearfully jerks while cranking, but eventually does start after a couple of tries and once it starts it goes smoothly thereafter without a hitch
Any idea what could be wrong and the cure?

Thanks in advance

fuel issue perhaps. Changed the filter lately? Might be worthwhile pulling the spark plugs too and having a look at them.

What do you mean by jerking? The entire car shakes violently?

If the engine runs smoothly after starting, I don't think the plugs or filter would be the issue - I'd doubt that they would cause the car to shake as you describe.

I'd look towards the starter itself and the teeth that it engages.

I've just joint the forum 2 days ago and am feeling already so nice with all you guys with suggestions to my Volvo problems.

Thanks so much

I haven't changed the fuel filter of late but the plugs and oil filter have already changed them a couple of times, as well as the High Tension leads which previously did have a current leak.
