Default It hasn't ended yet! Yo Tech!

Well I took the car to have the gear position sensor replaced today. All went well until I saw the look on the mechanics face when he came back from the test ride. He said he started the car, pulled out on the highway and when he came to a stop at the light about a half mile down the road, the SRS warning light came on. He put the reader on it and got only one code showing an open circuit to the drivers seat belt. He cleared and reset it and when he started it back up the light came back on. He spent several hours checking many items. I have to take it back when he has more time to trouble shoot it further. He said he felt the good news is if it were the SRS module under the console it would have thrown several codes.(very expensive to replace) He said and the Volvo dealer confirmed that they rarely ever replace one and usually only after an accident. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The seat belts are common to go bad on these cars.
Was it the seatbelt or the seatbelt catch?

I don't know what the code was. He just told me it was the left seat belt. Are there different codes for the belt vs the latch? The SRS light is on immediately after starting the car without doing anything with the belt such as inserting it into the catch. What is the repair cost? Does the whole seat belt assembly have to be replaced?

Depending on the code yes there is different codes.
One might cost about $60.00 for the part plus labor and the other might be like $180.00 or so for the part and 1 1/2 hour labor.

It is hard to say without seeing the code.
