Default Headlamp bulb question

Morning All,

Question regarding headlamp bulbs. I want to replace my factor bulbs with something brighter and whiter. Any recommendations on the best bulb out there for this swap. Not interested in HID conversions or angel eye swaps. Just a good quality better lighting bulb.

TIA
LF

www.iPdUSA.com appears to have some good options. Haven't tried any but think I will soon.

Thanks. Anyone have any luck with any of the brands at the big box stores, Autozone, Advanced, Oreilly, Pep boys, etc.?

Most of the ones on the iPd site can be sourced locally.

I use Philips Xtreme Vision globes. I buy mine from Headlights, Car Lights, Headlight Bulb, Car Bulbs, Car Light Bulbs | PowerBulbs and they are great. Expensive but the amount of light they put out is amazing.

I changed my factory 9006 bulbs to the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs. These can be bought at Wal-Mart and lots of other auto stores. What a difference! I am very satisfied.
Sylvania offers three types of bulbs in the Silver Star series. I chose the lowest cost Silver Star bulbs, because: A) they were the cheapest, B) They will last twice as long as the other two Silver Stars, C) and they use only 55 Watts.
I have them in my car for about 2 years now, but I do not do a lot of night driving. I have two cautions for you to be aware of: "Ultra bright lights" do not last as long as the normal factory bulbs, sometimes only one fourth the life span. Second, beware of the 'wattage' of the new bulbs.I have seen some brand bulbs using as much as 100 watts ! I was told by a mechanic friend that he knew of people who burned out their wires by installing higher power bulbs.

I like the Sylvania SilverStar Ultras. The do burn a little hotter (brighter) so there is a tradeoff in life but normal use is 2-3 years in my case on my cars.

The picture is of Silverstars, not the Ultras. The Ultras have more of a reddish or orangeish packaging.

Forgot to mention that the Silverstars work fine for out 850's as they use a 9006 and 9005 style bulb with plastic bases.

I really like mine but if you have a vehicle that calls for a bulb that has a metal base like the 9003 below or most of the smaller fog or driving light bulbs that are metal based, I'd say NOT to try the Silverstars. Something about the metal based ones they burn out in months and sometimes in under a month. For those I'd try the Phillips NightGuides or some other brand.

Yeah the 850's here in Australia didnt use the plastic based globes.

The 92 model used the H4 and the 93-97 used two H1 globes in each side.

I used to have those Sylvania Ultra's, and they were fine.

Good luck finding the right bulbs!
