Default Heater died. Stopped-Started car. Working again. Hmm?

I've only had my 94' 850 Turbo Wagon two weeks and so far everything's been great!! But tonight I was driving home from my89 year oldgrandma's house with the heater blowing nice hot air on my cold hands.

I moved the selection switch from where it was resting (just a bit to the right of zero)... to the far left: 'Auto' and the heater quit working. D'oh!It's never done that before and I have used the 'Auto' selection many times with no problems. I don't jerk the selector switcharound either. I'm very gentle with everything.

Nothing I did could get the heater blowingagain until...

I parked the car and turned the motor off. When I turned the motor back on the heater worked just fine (throughout the entire selection range 'Auto', 'O', etc).

Any ideas? It kind of freaked me out.

Thanks!

It was probably due to a malfunction in the electronic control system. Do the LEDs for REC and A/C blink when you start the engine? Often, there are trouble codes stored in the ECU for the climate control system.

Check for codes, erase it (them) and see what happens. Next time if that happens, try using the manual mode rather than the "AUT" mode. It may help.

See attached for code retrieving & erasing procedures. If you're unsure, let us know and we'll help you.

I was wondering about any blinking lights on the ECC panel as well. One nice thing about the 850, it is pretty good about telling you if something is or is going amiss...........
