Heater repair
The drivers side heater control **** does not turn so the air only comes out cold. Attempting to use a vise grip on the shaft has also been a waste of time.
It does feel like there is some sort of cable or rod connection to a control unit. My gut feel is that it is not the control **** but something behind or below it.
However I have no manual or diagram to see what is going on and would like to know how to rip this thing apart before I go in blind.
The passenger side works fine and there is both hot and cold air.
Any one know of diagrams or pictures of this thing being disassembled?
Thanks
As usual I can find what I am looking for ONLY after I have asked the question: This is where I found the manual info: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/volvo_wo...techdocs.shtml

I have a 93 and the car has a manual unit.
I have watched the sticky video at the top of the forum and have looked over many of the Heater related posts. The motors sound like the most likely problem or perhaps the doors operated by them. That is if I understand how these MCC units work.
I woud like to hear back as to how the temp control **** on the drivers side controls the door and how I can access the linkages to check it.
Thanks again.

I have MCC on my '95 N/A but other than replacing that **** once, I haven't had to mess with it; it's always just worked. From the manual it appears that all the controls are cable activated. I think those ***** are designed to break if too much torque is applied (i.e. there's a problem with the underlying linkage). Suggest you pull the center console and side access panels (the ones you might pull off to do a heater core R+R) and see what you can see. Imagine you got a seized cable.
BTW: If you're going to do much interior work, the IPD bone tool is nice to have in your toolbox; very handy and safer to use than a screwdriver..
Managed to fix it. The problem was a stuck plastic part behind the drivers side heat control unit. The actual part that moves the wire cable to control the air door.
So I had at her yesterday thinking it would be a long job, because there is so much dash to get out of the way to get in there. I also had the big problem that I had limited time (3 hours) because the girl friend, who drives this needs it and it has to function.
I took out the radio and the started to access the manual control panel section. This is the part behind the temp *****, blower speed control etc. and has all the wire control cables running down from it. It sort of looks like this from behind (this is a dwg with no detail) but that is not how you see it in the car.
What I did was move the part where the wire was connected to move the air door. I basically played with it and managed to do something that made it function again. The thing is you can't remove it or take it out of the dash so the best you can do is twist it to sort of see what is going on.
Thanks for the ideas in the previous posts.

Your dwg in last post never loads for me but sounds like the issue is in the AC/Heater control panel (figure 4 in manual) so I would just get a working one from a JY and slap it in there..
R+R from manual:
A/C HEATER CONTROL PANEL
Removal & Installation
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove lower dash
panels. Disconnect all cable sleeves (pop out) from cables at climate
control unit. See Fig. 3. Remove 4 cables from damper levers.
2) Remove control ***** and blower fan switch button from
A/C-heater control panel. Remove 2 screws and A/C-heater control panel
front. Remove A/C-heater control panel. Disconnect light connector. To
install, reverse removal procedure.
