Default Heating: Is this normal?

It's been getting colder lately, so I've been putting the heat on. While driving at 75 today I noticed that when i put the heat temp on max (I have manual climate control without the degrees) and set it to blow on the Windshield the heat comes out hot at the windshield, but at the middle vents its blowing cool air. When I set it to blow on driver only the heat blows hot but on the middle driver's side I still feel a little bit of cool air blowing. I know that the car is designed so that when you are driving theere is still air blowing even at 0 setting.

Is this normal?

Your centre vents are probably set at the "direct outside air-centre vents open". Check with the owner's manual for correct setting. This comes on many cars to direct cool air to keep the driver aware in warm cabin during winter.

+1. I feel the direct outside air centre vents are a reallygodd idea, for just the purpose JPN said....keeping the driver alert in an otherwise warm cabin.

Shut the outside air from coming in. It's the lever to the left of the vent closes to the driver on the right hand side. Differnet models have different markings on them. One of my cars it open when down and the other two are the opposite.

Thanks for the reply. It's not an issue for me, I was just wondering if it was normal. Now that i think about it that way, its a great idea by Volvo designers.

I had this same problem when I first got the car. I felt like such a dumbass when I figured it out.
