Default Help! Bad Tranny?

Hello -- I just bought a '94 850TW. I got it knowing that it had a problem running (rough idle, intermittant stalling -- but with a rebuilt tranny, 193,333 mi) Since, it's been tuned up (runs great), but now the tranny does not come out of "Winter" mode. At stop lights, it starts out in second, therefore, it's very slow -- sounds like I'm new to manual trans. and burning the clutch. The "winter/summer" switch has been replaced, but to no avail. I push down the winter button and nothing happens, no indicator light, no change in performance. What can I do? [:@]

Is it a Manual trans or Auto trans?

It's Auto -- Also, the check engine light is on, and the arrow flashes sporadically.

You need to pull the codes in the engine and the transmission. When there is a code in there it goes into limp home mode and does that till the codes are clear.
You might have a bad Park Nuetral position switch (PNP).
Check in the general section I made a post for links. There is one there that will tell you how to pull the codes.
A1=transmission A2=Fuel system A6=Ignition system.
Check the codes and clear them and see what happens.
The link is something like OBDI codes

I don't have a code checker -- so if I took it to a dealer, what would be a reasonable price expectation? Provided it is the PNP switch?

You don't need a scanner!!!
Follow the link and it will tell you how to pull codes.

BTW, from the diagram on the link -- would you know which socket is for the transmission? Socket 2 is fuel, right?

OK, well, mine has OBDII under the change holder, and my brother hooked up his scanner. We got a code P0130. Is that it, or do we have to look at the OBDI boxes in the front right portion under the hood for any codes there?

Thanks so much for your help, thus far, you are a valuable resource!

I would use the one under the hood. The OBDII on your car won't give all the info.

I checked the OBDI A1 socket, and it was kind of sporadic. I really couldn't get a read. What I got was a 5-1-1. And according to the table from the website link you posted, that say o2 sensor -- which I believe is not related.
Is there something I'm not quite doing right?

Try looking at the site again and try pulling the codes again.I don't have a 5-1-1 in my book for the transmission.

That site seemed to have only fuel codes for the turbos -- do you know of another? I'll check more as well.

ok, I'm back -- I did it right, I think. I got either 1-2-1, or 2-1-1.

Does that help??

Sorry it took me so long here is a list of the codes I hope you can zoom in on it to read them.
You have to try to figure out exactly which code you have both are on the list.

All right! Now I can double check these. If it's S1, how hard is it to get to? I mean is something that can be done in the backyard, or should I take it somewhere?

It can be done but is kind of a pain.It is under the black metal pan on the front of the transmission.

Well, according to the website below, the problem explained matches what mine is doing, (and the codes -- thanks for the code descriptors). The recommended fix is to replace both solenoids. I'm checking with my brother to see when we can get it done. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Don't know if you've read this, but it breaks out the whole transmission -- pretty useful -- in conjunction with what you've told me.
