Unhappy HELP!! My Coolant is leaking!!

My 850 Turbo is leaking coolant at steady drip like a leaking faucet. It seems to be coming from the back of the engine towards the middle or little over to the right side. Is there a pipe/hose there?

Appreciate the help.

If it's towards the back of the engine, there are a few coolant lines that run to the turbo. Could be one of those. I would take off the heat shield and check all the coolant lines that run to the turbo.

If you look under the coolant reservoir you will see a line that branches off and then goes behind the motor, just follow that to the turbo. There is a piece of coolant hose between to metal lines that is known to become brittle after time and that is on the passenger side. There are also copper crush washers that seal the coolant lines where they attach to the turbo. Check to see if your turbo is wet or dry too.

There is also engine block drain bolt on the back of the engine. You have to lift the front end of the car, which I do not recommend doing, unless you know how. Make sure the bolt is tight.

If you cannot locate the leak, have the cooling system pressure-tested.

Just remember something, the day the coolant was driping, the level of the coolant expansion tank went up to almost full pass MAX mark after run. Is that normal, the level is usually at the half way mark between MAX and MIN when engine is cold.

I would say it was probably normal, as the coolant expands with engine heat, it has to escape to the reservoir so the level does go up.

I would, however, still try to locate the leak by pressure-testing the cooling system.

The only things I could think of would be a) Turbo Coolant Lines b) Heater Coolant Lines or C) The engine drain.

Also the coolant resevoir could be leaking, dripping down the pipe and off by the back of the engine. Mine has done that.

Finally had the time to look around the engine bay today. The weird thing is, it had stop leaking. I couldn't find anything wrong at all. Everything is bone dry. Sometimes I think the car is just toying with me. One moment there's electrical problems, odd sounds, ramdom leakages, things that suddenly stop working, and the next it just all goes away. It's quite fusterrating sometimes.

It may be due to the recent temperature drop that the leak has stopped.

I forgot to mention water pump as the source of the leak. You can easily check the water pump just by removing the 12mm bolt from the timing belt cover and wiggle it upward to remove it. This exposes all timing belt components, as well as the water pump which is on lower-left of that area. See if there is residual coolant; you should see green (may be of different colour) fluid there.

And yes, the expansion reservoir is known to leak with age.

Could it be possible that I haven't drive the car very often? Most of time the car is only driven once every one to three weeks. The temperature around here has been steady I believe, but we did have some cool nights not to long ago.
