Default Help! Rounded screw on spark plug cover

Hi, there is 1 torx screw on my spark plug cover that is rounded completley. No grip for the factory screwdriver or anything to grasp and screw it out. Can anyone help me?

Drill it out. That's probably about all you can do.

Use a dremel to make it a flat blade screw, then use a big flat blade screwdriver to get it out.

Good tips. You can also just break the cover off and toss it in the trash, many have. Once off you can vice grip it out.

You can get another from a junk yard for $10 or less. Heck I'm pretty sure I have one you can have if you pay shipping. It may have a small crack on it. I'll even send you another screw.

The big thing is, if you put it back on, don't tighten those screws to much, snug is plenty.

I had that same problem once. I was able to gently tap an allen bit into the hole to mold it then get it out. The tapping helped losen it as well.

I would use a dremel to cut a slot for a flat blade screw driver, like others mentioned above. Always works great for me!

If its really stubborn, you could do that and then tap around the edges of it to try and tap it free, kind of like hitting the edge of a jar lid repeatedly with a fork or something to break it loose.

Most of the time this happens because the wrong size torx was used. If this was the case, using the correct size and tapping into place can get them out. (I am guilty here)

Great ideas from everyone.

Slotting might be easiest, next would be drilling the head off and using a vise grip if possible or drilling and using an easy out.

I ended up slotting a flathead into the top of the screw, then got it out with a screwdriver bit on a power drill.
