Not sure how that happened. But since it is a manual, I say no. I would clean and dry that area and add some JB weld. Is that on the side, top or bottom? Now is a perfect time to drain and replace the fluid. Usually gear oil 75W90 or MTF thats synthetic. either are fine.

Drain the fluid, clean and dry the area, JB Weld, leave overnight, fill trans up, change the engine oil, write it down in the book, go about your day.

P.S. if this is on the bottom, STOP right now and complete the fix. if you run that trans dry it will seize up and die.

Hope that helps.

That's just a weep hole for the rear main seal. It's original. I have a 5 speed lying the floor, let me look at it just to make sure that it looks the same. The important thing is that the clutch is inside that space, and the clutch it dry. The space where the clutch is should never fill up with oil, and so all cars have a drain there, even automatics. A 1967 tempest has a hole in that area the size of a house cat, with a little tin cover that just keeps rocks and dirt out.

I'm impressed you can recall what a 67 Tempest has for a weep hole :-) Everybody has to experience bench pressing a GM transmission into place once in their lives... (my experince was doing a clutch on my brother's 69 Camaro. Not sure how I got tricked into that job)

My 67 Tempest was a ST300, although I always said a powerglide by any other name would still stink.

Mine started life with a 326 2BBL and an ST300 and a 2:56 open rear. It has gone through a lot of changes. Now it has a 468 making 505 HP with a 5 speed TKO and a Ford 9" Truetrac posi with 3:50 gears. First car I owned that at 50 MPH in 3rd gear will boil the tires off with half throttle... I think the 5 speed has a vent, not a weep hole..

So I looked at my 5 speed and of course that is the same hole I have in mine. So no worries. It is a bit oily though. Both my cars blew the intake rear cam seal out and leaked oil through the inside of the distributor cap and it ran down into the clutch housing. That is easy to fix. If your rear main seal is leaking, of course, that is aggravating to fix.
