Default How do you install front fog lights

I'm sorry if this question has been answered before/somewhere else; if it has please direct me to that thread. If not could someone please tell me how to install front fog lights on a 1996 Volvo 850 that did not originally come with front fog lights. How to install them and what parts I will need i.e. switches, relays. I've got the fog lights. I recently visited a salvage yard and pulled a relay that I thought I needed, if someone could confirm the correct number that would be great. Also I picked up a front fog light switch. So I basically need to know how to connect everything so it works and what parts, if any, I'm missing to make it works.

Thank you very much for your time and help.

If you have all the parts you should be able to plug it all in (switches, relays and OEM plugs)

First you need to find out if it pre-wired. There should be blank plugs down where the fogs mount on each side attached to the frame.
Second, if you pull the fog blank you should have a yellow plug attached to the back of it, if not there an not somewhere a bit deeper in the hole you are probably not prewired.

This might help

Default What am I missing?

Here is what I know:
1) It is pre-wired; the switch plugged into a yellow receptacle that was there behind the blank in the dash and there are plugs for fog light on each side near the bumper
2) I thought I needed to change the "Light Control Relay" from part number:35 23 200 to part number:91 48 880, so I did
3) the fuse for the front fog lights is always hot
4) I'm obviously missing a critical component because I don't get power to the front fog light plugs when the front fog light switch is on and the head lights are on

What am I missing?

You need Gilber33 to chime in. He did extensive searching when trying to get his fogs running. I believe there are two or three relays that need to be plugged in. Two inside the cabin and maybe one outside. Not sure here, its all I can offer. Mine were added because I was not prewired. Yours should be a lot easier.

I added mine the easy way even though I was prewired for them.

HERE I AM!

Since you have a 96 it is like you said prewired for fogs both up front and behind the dash. The 94/95s you had to purchase a separate harness from the dealer for the switch that had the relays wired into it. However, for a 96/97 I believe there are three relays you need. You need the main one, which is the one I think you mentioned and then two "J" relays that go underneath the dash.

I believe that is everything you need. I wired my car for the 94/95 set up using this harness:

I'm at my wits end trying to install front fog light in my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT that is pre-wired for the front fog lights. So I went to the salvage yard and picked up a front fog light switch pn:9128536, a light relay pn:9148880, a plug with fog light pn:9148991, and a "J" relay pn:9130269. I plugged the "J" relay into the top left corner outlet on the relay panel underneath the dashboard. I plugged the "plug with fog light" into the bottom middle lime green outlet in the same relay panel. I replaced my current "light relay" under the hood next to the fuse box with pn:9148880. With my key in, turned to acc., head lights on, front fog light switch on - I get no power to the front fog light plugs that are in the front near the bumper. Nor a light on the front fog light switch.

If someone could please tell me what I'm missing, if I plugged everything into the correct spots, I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you for your time and help.

gilber33 - I see a yellow plug, like the one in the picture that you posted, hanging out under the dash not plugged into anything. Does that plug need to be plugged into something for the front fog lights to work correctly?

Thanks for your help

Default Installation

How do you install the wiring harness for the fogs? I have a 94 that isn't prewired. How easy is it to remove the harness from a car and install it all in mine?

I have a 94 parts car with rectangular fogs. I'll look. Nothing they did on the assembly line is "hard" but certainly the termination point for all that stuff is hard to get to. All those harnesses just snap together up over the clutch pedal.
