Some were pre-wired, some were not....how do you know you are pre-wired when you cant find any plugs?

You should be able to see the plugs from under the car looking up, mounted to the frame.

If you are pre-wired you need the relay, fogs and switch
If you are not pre-wired you can buy a harness that Volvo made to put in fogs after the factory or you can wire them yourself.

Here is a bunch of reading on it:

related question for boxpin: if it's prewired, would the switch be already installed on the dash with the fog light logo next to it? Thanks.

No, it wouldn't. He said that if you are prewired, you need the relays and the switch. If you are not pre-wired, you'll need a special harness and plug that plugs into a yellow accessory plug underneath the dash that allows you to plug in the relays, and then you have to splice into a wire that is found in the headlight harness if you peel back the loom. You either then have to make a harness for the fog lights (like I did) or order the harness as well.

Gilber33 has a picture of this harness in he thread somewhere. He and I had a long conversation trying to figure it out. Either way, you need the switch if you dont have it already. Curious though, you talk like you have it already. If you do, pull it and see if the factory harness is plugged into it.

Im pretty sure I have them prewired because i have a switch on the dashboard for fog lights. and on the 850s theirs like a towing hook under the passenger side on the front bumper. Im guessing i would just have to place the fogs on either side or can you remove it?

I wasn't clear. There IS a switch on my dash with the foglight logo next to it. And I can actually turn it "on". But of course, there are no foglights attached to the car, so nothing comes on. There is also a harness by the cross-member underneath behind the grill and front end. But I'm not sure that's for the foglights. Are there any identifying marks? And if it IS the correct harness, that suggests I don't need the switches and relays? I'll try pulling it as you suggest, hopefully without breaking anything.

Does your fog light switch in the dash light up with the dash lights or when you turn it on? If not I would pull it out and make sure its got something plugged into it.

As to where the fog lamps go, the vent and tow hook area is not where they go. The bumper cover will have provisions for them. If your bumper does not then you would have to figure out the best suitable place you can.

Here is a factory fog mount:

Are we talking about the switch just below the instrument dimming slider? If so this switch should have power and work to turn on one of the taillights in the rear even if you don't have front fog lights. It should look like you have one brake light on.

So, the blank you pulled with the yellow harness thing is the place where the wiring for the fog lights go?
