How to install an aftermarket Muffler??
Ok first thing I went pretty far into the threads and I didnt see anything about this. I have looked underneath my car and all I see is straight pipe. I want to install a muffler but unlike other cars my volvo doesnt have anything that I can just unattach and just attach the aftermarket one. Can someone steer me in the right direction on what to do. Am I suppose to cut pipes and solder other ones or something like that? Please help. Here are some pictures to help you understand what im trying to say.

Locate problem, cut pipe, replacement might slip on and can be clamped, you can take replacement to muffler shop and they can expand or contract the end for a slip on fit and clamp (you have to supply measurements), go to parts store and get adapters to fit the replacement (you need to know the size, they usually can't look it up) to the existing pipes and clamp or weld or take it to someone and have them weld it in place.
That's the easy answer, if you have a Volvo and the muffler goes bad and you want to do it yourself you have to be smarter than the car because it's not a straight shot. Auto parts stores sell 45 and 90 degree bends and if you spent more time playing with an erector set or Lincoln logs than play station three you have better "skills" for piecing it together.
If you've seen the replacement for our muffler you see it comes as one big piece and because it does the catalog doesn't tell the pipe sizes because you buy it all together. That's why the guy at the parts counter usually can't help you with a part like this for the pipe size. They don't tell him.
