How many had to replace their evaporator?
Hi!
I have a 95 850 and the a/c has gone ka-put. Last year I finally found what I thought was the problem - the reciever/dryer was rusted out from the bottom. I know that these cars have a tendency to fail at the evaporator level as well, and I have no idea it failed as well. The car had a yellow dye put in the system but I only saw dye coming out of the receiver/dryer, I would have no idea where it would be visible if the evaporator failed. Any ideas?
Also, I created this poll to see just how many people have had problems with their a/c and what that problem was. If you do not know IF something was fixed please don't answer choice number 4, use choice number 5.
The point of this is to see if I even stand a chance of being lucky if the evaporator has survived 11 years without rusting, or if I'm replacing the reciever/dryer in vain...
Thanks!

RE: How many had to replace their evaporator?
Ok thanks! If I can get the accumulator off and fixed I found a garage that will vaccum out the system and put oil in it for $90. I told him I would just add the refridgerant myself to save some $$ so I'm guessing you'll have me put 'special' UV refridgerant in? That makes sense.
Anyhow one step at a time!
And for those who didn't repond to the poll, c'mon, 16 hits and no responses...

RE: How many had to replace their evaporator?
If you had Dye in there already if it is leaking Dye will be there now.
All you have to do is remove the Glove box insert. Then the Metal Knee bolster. Then look in and you will see a Black Resistor bolted in the Box with one T-15 screw. Remove it and look in to the right and you will see the evaperator. With the Black light you will see the Dye really bright.
I will bet it is leaking. Most cars it only lasts about 3 years.
In the last 6 years I have to have done a couple of hundred Evaperators.
