How to reset the service light
My 10,000 miles service light came on while on a trip to Indiana. The manual says that because its the only light on, it simply means that the car is due for service, not that anything has mafunctioned. Does anyone know how to reset this light or is it as simple as disconnecting the battery
Thank you very much

RE: How to reset the service light
Check on ebay, Draper makes a tool that plugs into the OBDII socket and will reset it but they run anywhere from $55 up to $160 depending on where you look. Some people resort to taking the bulb out when they have the dash cluster out for speedo or instrument panel light replacement. Next time mine is out that is what I am doing. The light should go out after 2 minutes of driving but it does get annoying. If you change your oil every 3k to 5k miles you don't need the light. I bought a scanner for mine to read codes but only the really high end ones will reset the light and we are talking in the 1k range there. Tech can tell you more but my suggestion is befriend the dealer and let them reset, maybe let them change the oil, or pull the bulb out.

RE: How to reset the service light
I just called the local Volvo Dealer (Don Beyer) and he said they do not charge to reset it. I drove down there and sure enough it took him all of 3 mins to reset it for free and i was on my way. Woohoo free is good to bad the porsche dealers dont follow suit
Thank you

RE: How to reset the service light
Thats pretty shotty, it took 3 mins at most for him to do it. I understand they are there to make money, but on something trivial like that should have been waived. Because they did do it for me, i will remember when the car does need work done, that i cant do, to bring it to them. I guess different places have different policies.

RE: How to reset the service light
Hi, my Turbo SW is 95 and has the swiches(andODBII as well) in the engine bay. Does anyone has an idea of the delay needed to de LED light-up after the procedure starts? I mean:
[ul][*]keys "on"[*]socket plugged in # 7[*]4 times pressed buttom[*]etc.[/ul]
It took very long minutes after I started this procedure (Chilton # 72302 page 1-38). I finally gave up thinking that there might be a problem with the tool.
Thanks for the help.

RE: How to reset the service light
Since you have a decent, honorabledealerin your area I think you are golden. If they cease to exist rumor has it that there is a cracked version of a computer program called VOL-FCR floating around on Bit Torrent that will reset the light. It will take a special VAG-COM cable if it is there. The whole Bit Torrent thing kinda makes me uneasy as I think it opens up your computer to others on the web plus I question its legality.

RE: How to reset the service light
Give it another shot. If you are lucky to have Yazaki cluster, you can follow the directions given by Tech.
When you press the button on the OBD-I terminal, you kind of have to press it FIRM. I would like to know the guy/gal who designed it and have a little talk over a cup of coffee, or better yet, a glass of The Glenlivet or The MaCallan[8D].

If you have the '93 to '95 models you can do the following:
1. Turn the key on - II position (car not running).
2. Pull the cap off the OBD-I, A (left side) adapter.
3. Remove the jumper wire from the cap and Jump #7.
4. Push the button 4 times (red light will light up each time you press the button). The red light will light up and stay lit.
5. Push the button 1 time. The red light will light up.
6. Push the button 5 times. The red light will light up.
7. Push the button 1 time. The red light will flicker several times.
8. Remove the jumper wire and cover the connector.
Done.
