RSPI, great video. Question for you, where, what, is the gauge you have to fill the AC? Need to get me one.
Thanks,

Thanks,

If you end up going to Walmart or an auto parts store or even amazon be careful of the ones that use a plastic screw on connection to the can. These are proprietary and can only be reused with their own brand of refill cans. It's very limiting.

There is a more universal fitting that the rest of the industry uses and you can walk in anywhere and buy a can and it will fit your hose.

The first three show the more universal where the fourth picture shows the plastic one.

Thanks,
What Kiss said. I have been through a few of the other ones, especially ones with plastic connections and they only worked 3 or 4 times. Spend another $12 and get a gauge with metal connections that will work with any can of 134a. Now I can get a can of freon for $8.75 and recharge my system. I'm going through about 1 can every 4 months.

RSPI: appreciate your enthusiasm but like ES6T alluded to, this is very unprofessional on so many levels.

First and foremost R134a is not OK to vent to the environment:

From here:
Frequently Asked Questions on Section 608 | Ozone Layer Protection - Regulatory Programs | US EPA

Can I vent HFC-134a refrigerant?
It is illegal under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act to knowingly vent substitute refrigerants during any service, maintenance, repair or disposal of an appliance.

First off, I don't see ES6T post so I have no idea what he wrote. On another note, I never encouraged anyone to dump the stuff into the atmosphere. It happens, everyday. Wheather my system is leaking or not. I heard that it was not harmful but if that is not true the powers that be should stop selling it.

I do have an evaporator handy. You are welcome to come swap it out for me. PM me and I'll send you my address.

Ok, just did some research/reading about refrigerants (for those of you who would like to be able to breath 30 years from now). Several sources indicate that the r134a refrigerant that they sell us over the counter is not harmful to the ozone. Here is one article that goes into detail about the different refrigerants:
http://www.airconditioning-systems.c...frigerant.html

reading in other areas indicate that it is as harmful as most arisol cans like hair spray, carb cleaners, brake cleaners, etc.

The compressor won't turn on if the low side pressure gets low enough, right? At what pressure does it do this? What range should the pressure normally be in?

Thanks!

Usually 15-20psi for the low side switch.

I wasn't even talking about venting it to the atmosphere, which is illegal. I was just talking about how if the refrigerant can leak out, air and moisture can get in. This can cause damage to the AC system.

You should never vent refrigerant to the atmosphere. We all have to live on this planet. However, a lot of venting does happen due to system leaks.

The drier or accumulator will not only absorb any moisture that is in the system, it acts as somewhat of a filter. On a system like an old 850, I'd recommend changing the orifice tube and accumulator.
