RE: Idle problem
Hello Dave,
Is the Check Engine Light on? If not, it could be as simple as a dirty throttle body that needs cleaning, or the ECU may have to re-learn idle, if the battery has been replaced lately. It may also be due to vacuum leak from rubber hoses or plastic elbows that are known to go bad after years.
As to tune-up items, refer to the following post:

I hope this gets you started.

RE: Idle problem
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forum and want to thank all of you guys for contributing to such a wonderfull site.It really is a gr8 help to a guy like me who here in South Africa lacks the aftermarket parts and accessories to help keep these gr8 cars alive.I have to buy very expensive Volvo original parts here and the labour rates are very expensive.
The reason I have responded on this thread is that I am trying to cure my 1994 850 T5 from an Idling problem. The car was serviced recently , but was merely oil, plugs filter etc.
If I rev it ,it seems to be normal but wont idle and usually stalls whilst driving.I have read similar threads and they all seem to mention Idle Control Valve,PCV system and vacuum lines, throttle body.
I have only tried cleaning the ICV and that seems to be functioning ok, can someone give me the resistance readings to check this and maybe the othere sensors correctly?
I dont have a repair manual at the moment but def see the sense in getting one soon.
I would appreciate if someone could also point me in the direction of a diagram showing the pcv and vacuum system that I should check for thispoor idling and stalling problem.
