If I disconnect my battery to clean the terminals, or change out the battery will I need to enter a code number to start the car again ? This may sound silly, but I had read where a fellow disconnected his battery to replace it and the car would not start afterwards.

If I disconnect my battery musy I enter a code to restart the car ?
I read on a previous thread about a fellow could not restart his 850. No one ever told him what you told me. I hope he figured it out.
I bought my 1995 Volvo 850 GLT in July 2009. I have been reading my owner's manual and visiting this site ever since then ! I really like this car but there is an awful lot of information one MUST know compared to the previous cars I owned. I GREATLY appreciate that you and others like you freely share your knowledge here !

Actually, I love owning old classy cars like a Volvo or Mercedes. I could never afford to buy such a car new ! My last Volvo was a 1964 P544 I bought when I got out of the Army in 1970. It was far easier to work on than my 1995 Volvo. Personally, I am more endeared to a car that I have worked on. It ran like crap until I changed the timing gear. I find working on my car rewarding. I do not feel that I really own a car unless I have popped the hood and did something. Although now I have aged into my sixties and do not or cannot do all of the type of repairs as I did in my younger days.
The battery in my Volvo is a 'Volvo brand'. I have no idea how old it is. There are no dates on it. I do not intend to drive the car until it fails on some cold winter morning. I 'inspect' every car I have bought, then I take it to my mechanic for a second opinion to see if there is anything else that should be changed out.
I have learned a lot from this website and there is more for me to learn !
