info on 850r
Why don't you pm me your address so I can pay for a trip to a 1/4 mile track for you. Then you can post a pic of the track time slip and let the world see how slow your car really is. Then you can take that pic of that wanna be rapper and point that finger back to you, you wanna be fast car driver.
No, boostcreep is just the local hot head. Put him on your ignore list, makes the forum a little bit better.

Ha. See? He probably had some smart *** rhetorical comment to me probably about my car, and how he's so smart, and how where ever he goes no one likes him. But I can't see any of his posts, which makes his comments that much funnier knowing that they will go unread.
Lets us all join hands and sing....'Kumbaya'
"Can't we all get along"
(Saltic words by Rodney King after getting his rear quarter wooped by Police)
Not to mention we are giving matt2.3 a very bad impression of the forum. Sorry Matt.

Oh comeon whats a little smack talk...I think it is interesting! If you troll on over to Streetcarforums.com you can catch a lot of smack talking over there. These guy's are all Ford and Chevy folk though. Go to the either the Atlanta or the chattanooga section in the southeast.
Any how back to the regular schedule program...I have found a 1997 Volvo 850R that I am going to go look at tomorrow any advice on what I should be looking out for?

Check for oil leaks,Vent system(by pulling the dipstick with it running) if it smokes bad out of the tube is needs a vent system service.
Give it a good look over.
BTW Boost always took it to far. We have been having problems with him for a while.
I do not allow it to get to much out of hand here. This is more of a family forum.

How much does a vent system run and what is involved. The current owner has it in the shop (thats where I am going to go look at it) getting a motor mount replaced and he said a Tensioner Belt but I think he meant Tensioner pulley. He said he has just put about $2,000 in it for repairs. I am going to the shop that does all the work on it for him so I will ask the folks there what all has been replaced. I know the timing belt was replaced within the last 6 months or so (at least that is what he told me). What else to look for?
If you can do the vent system your self it will be a little less than $200.00
You have to remove the intake manifold and replace the box on the front of the motor. It is also best to replace the hoses that go with it.
If they are a shop they should be pretty straight forward on what it needs(They want to sell stuff to make money)

He might be talking about a timing belt tensioner or idler pulley. But the car also has a drive belt idler and tensioner pulley. I would wait till you get there and see exactly what is getting done.
Good luck!
Good luck!
LOL
Thanks, Tech.
Sorry, Boxpin, there were couple posts after yours that were erased. I have so much respect for you and your contribution here.

Hey Guys & Gals, I apologize for subjecting all of you to my tasteless entertainment. As you all know, Boost has always been quite abrasive and I was a little bord when I seen his post. I knew a little poke would send him up the scale and for my entertainment, I poked twice. To me it was all fun and I really was laughing my head off, but this being a more helpful form, with less entertainment, I made the wrong call by subjecting all of you to my tasteless fun.
On the dark side, if someone could pm me the post I missed I would appreciate it. Because of the stress in my life, I need the off path entertainment, and poking Boost Creep was suplimenting my "My Name Is Earl" fixes. Also let me know what other form I can visit to torchure Boost Creep a little more while I'm on a roll. LOL

If you walk the car, make a list, put a price on all the things the car needs, take the retail value and start subtracting the cost of the needed repairs, you will quickly arrive at a good deal price for yourself, with a reasonable negotiating method. The good thing about it is that you are not telling the owner anything that they do not alread know, that's why they want to sell the car. I have even purchased cars that I did not test drive. I think one key is to make them an offer, and not acting like you care if they take it or not. Make sure they have a way to contact you in a day or two.
