INMotion ECU upgrade problem
After about 4 months of considering, BSing, and beating around the bush, I am ready to order an ECU tune by INMotion. The thing is I have a T5-R ECU in my T5 (threw out the old one).
I called inmotion and they said they have done it like that on rare occasions but will not be able to gurantee anything.
What was different on the T5-R stock to give it the erxtra HP in the first place? Do I risk harming my engine?

Plus the 15G turbo will handle a good amount of boost. What tune would you get for it? I would not go past 18psi if you have stock car (i wouldn't do more than 20 on that turbo).
The car is old and I was thinking about 15 PSI.
That leads into my second question. The pricing for the inmotion tune is for stage II. It says you can increase from that as well as decrease from that performance.
Does this mean I need to tell them the performance I want????

15-16psi would be a good DD tune. not too fast, better than stock, just right.
For those of you that have a tuned ECU... INMotion claims they have 208 different maps for the Volvo. Am I supposed to negotiate what I want?
Like should I tell them I want 16 psi followed by proper fuel cut? What else should I be asking about other than boost increase and a new fuel cut?

Just got off the phone with INMotion....
They say if they map my T5-R ECU, my T5 car will still achieve 15 psi of boost but it will spool faster and die out at higher rpms.
If I sent them a T5 ECU it would perform like normal (later spooling) except it would be able to hold 15 psi at higher rpm.
I guess because the T5-R turbo is larger it is able to hold the pressure at high rpm.
Should I get the T5-R ECU tuned or should I buy a T5 off ebay for like $100 and send that in?

First the T-5 (Actually only called turbo) both came with the 15G turbo. It is only the mapping that made the T5-R different.
There is a ton of people running t-5 chipped ECU's in a T5-R and vise versa.
The later GLT is a 13G turbo and T5 and R models use the 15G turbo's.

Just remember that the turbo will be most efficient with a 3" turboback exhaust and other supporting mods for the tune.....
Here is the official Volvo Press Release about the T-5R introduction. It claims a much lower psi than you guys are spouting and it claims the turbo is the same. Just a 7 second initial boost when you floor it.
