Default ac problem

I am getting a burnt smell from the cabin, and have the blinking lights on the ac system when I turn on the car. Its a 96 platinum fully loaded so I believe I have a ECC. The AC is still working but dont know for how much longer, and I live in the desert. So what do I do to resolve the problem before my AC goes out.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the control unit in the dash is going bad. I am assuming the burnt smell is electrical.

I would put some labour in lubricating the blower motor because if it is about to cease (sqeeking noise- common problem) then it will throw extra load on ECC and resistor. since the resitor is setup right in the air duct, any smell created from its heating immediately spreads into the cabin.
Also, I personally use my blower fan in manual mode somewhat halfway so that fan doesnt spin too slow and neither too fast.
