just bought a 1993 850 GLT
I have a few problems. She is a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT (no turbo). The original owner had it inspected, and i managed to get it registered, but still
Okay, the horn doesn't work, but the alarm does. The temperature gauge just stopped working a week ago. The engine moves forward about 2 inches when I put it in drive (its automatic), and i don't know if this is normal or not.
And finally, somewhat off topic, but if i installed an aftermarket stereo wouldn't there be a large gap?
Many thanks

It may need a new thermostat and temp sensor. Engine should not move so much, so check all motor mounts. There should be adapter to fit around aftermarket stereos -call Crutchfield -they give you adapter free if you buy HU from them.

The alarm horn is on the firewall - near the center, and near the top. The horns for the steering wheel are just behind the grill.
If you're mechanically inclined at all, change your own engine mount, or mounts. Most likely it is the large mount on top, and possibly the small mount under the bottom front. There are polyurethane replacements for the top mount - because the factory mounts go bad so often, but if you use it, know that it will transfer slightly more engine noise into the passenger compartment. I have one and am pleased with it. I would make sure that movement of the engine, didn't just unplug the temp sending wire, or something to that effect.
Have you checked your fuse panel for blown fuses?

Horn: I'm thinking corroded connection on horn(s)
Temp gauge: Probably the temperature sending unit. It's connected to the upper radiator (I think) and is a piece of cake to replace.
Engine moving: Most likely upper engine mount as has been said.
Stereo: Yes, it's a double-din opening. You can get an install kit from Crutchfield and it works pretty well. Essentially you will have a single-din radio and a pocket for storage taking up the rest of the opening.
