Default Just bought an 850 T5 - Having a few issues

Hi,

Just bought a UK spec imported 1996 850 T5 estate but I have a few issues. I've had a scan through the boards and not found anything specific to these issues but if I have double-posted, don't shout at me too much, I'm new here!

Issues are:

Steering seems too light. Didn't these cars have variable power steering assistance that varied with speed? Mins constantly 'very light'

Rear pads rattle despite replacing them with a new set.

ABS light has been removed; not put it back in yet but brakes are fine but no ABS.

The reciver/dryer has rotted and needs to be replaced. I have a new one but how do I undo the top connector to it?

Thecambelt has been replaced but it's not running 'true'. I also get a whirring noise when I first start the car that appears to be coming from the cambelt area of the engine.

I think that's about it. Really would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Can you explain more? Is it not entirely on the gears?

Thanks for the reply. I see that I need a special tool to detach the one connection which I'll source just now... Thank you for finding the link for me. The cambelt is on the gears- but only just. Also, when cold, there is a noise coming from the cambelt area which sounds like the belt itself 'running rough'.

Does it look like this?

The noise might be the belt rubbing against the plastic cover. There is a 12mm bolt in the center of the cover about 12" down, take it out then you can wiggle the timing belt cover up and out. Look on the inside and there is probably burnt out plastic, that's what mine had.

That's what the bad tensioner pulley from FCP made mine look like.
