Default 2002 S80 - just bought and having issues - please help...

Noise came on suddenly, I just purchased an '02 on Friday and had the same noise pop-up at lunch today, but the noise seems to go away when turning. It's also not making the noise when accelerating, just when coasting and slows as the vehicle slows.

I took it into the volvo dealer and it turns out the factory warranty had expired, so I'm not covered and they said my VIN was covered by the ETS which I think is also an issue.

I'm stuck in a rock and hard place right now, so I'll going back to the dealer that I purchased it from "with factory warranty" and try to force them to make or pay for the repairs.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Marc

Can you explain the noise a little better. Thump, grind, squeel, etc. Could be an axle, possibly the inner cv joint, but that would also make the noise on acceleration. Do you rev high when you accelerate, thus making only engine noise heard? Try accelerating slowly and see if it still makes the noise, if it does then its most likely the cv joint/axle. Not a hard fix.

Ha! Interesting results, I drove to the dealer (non-volvo) where I purchased it on Friday. First, on the way down the noise got extremely loud, so I knew it was something coming loose or something odd like that, sure enough it was a backing plate (which I think I normally call a dust shield) that had been loose.

They tightened it up and I'm back!

Now it's just getting the software upgrade with the ETS on the 21st, I hope that's the solution to the surging under heavy acceleration.

Thanks for everything!

Marc

I hope they replace your ETM as well. Not just the software upgrade.

I donno why but when i use my tiptronic to shift gears at high rmp i find it lags a lot than kicks really bad which actually slows down the car big time. Is this only my s80 T6 or is this normal.

Triptronic is usually faster. I have noticed a little bit of lag on most though.
