Default Knock sensor.... will car run without it??

You guys most likely hate me by now LOL I would like to thank all of you for bearing with my repetitive posts and what not i have learned a lot and will get it right sometime. Well I got the car running. It still will randomly not start or start hard, no aparent reason.(seems when its very cold its worse) I have been driving the car for a few days and it mostly starts all the time. When it dont it takes a bit of cranking then poof fires right or i stop cranking and hit the key it starts up no chug no problems. It roll starts very easy. A friend said if knock sensor was going bad it cold cause that. So when i turn it over it shakes it a bit and it starts. Could that cause the prob?? I had it at the auto fix it dude and it started the whole time it was there LOL so he couldnt do much. His scanner said the ecm(or pcm??) was not getting signal so he had me clean the grounds and what not and I just did the ignition switch no difference It may start in 1 second or 10 LOL. I did notice that if its sits running for a bit that the fan dont kick on and it starts to over heat... The alldata site said temp issues could cause a no start no code prob. I did replace the temp sensor on the engine is there one on the fan as well?? Thanks again ZR

I doubt it is the knock sensor.
The ECT is the one you most likely replaced. That would cause start issues. But just because it is new does not mean it cannot have issues. That sensor also controls the cooling fan. Your fan or relay might be bad.
Are you getting any codes at all?
Do you have a scanner?

I dont have a scanner. The man I brought it to had $3,000 snap on one. He said probed the sockets to get the codes and he only came up with the lack of signal and that the air box was not hooked up.(it is now) Is there a obd 2 hook up??? Which sockets do you pull codes from?? In one socket i get 2 codes and ones for a turbo(my car is na lol) I will pull the codes my self and post them later(again). I was also told to check the main relay... is that under the fuses?? How do you get to that!?!? THanks ZR

If it's a 95 it should have the OBDII port just above the shifter on the drivers side. It's under a coin holder. It would be directly left of the power port.

You can just barely see it cut in half at the top of the photo.

Autozone, Oreilly and others have scanners you can borrow in the parking lot to read your own codes for free

Manual or automatic it would be the same. The OBDII port can be (CAN BE but may not be) on Volvos as old as '93.
