Large Evap leak
I have a check engine light on and I was told that it was a large evap leak but "nothing to worry about" and that it does not affect the performance of the car, I am wondering how to locate and fix this leak or if I should just ignore it?
All that is going to do is cause your A/C to not work. The evaporator is part of the A/C system Costs in the neighbor hood of $1500 to replace. If you don't care about having A/C, don't worry about it. But the evaporator being bad will not cause the CEL to come on.
Jim, Iassumesdeering meant "evaporative emissions" side.
Sdeering:
See attached pic, which shows you the components in the evaporative emissions system. The purge valve is the only component in the system that has electrical connection, means it can trigger CEL. However, don't just assume the valve is the suspect; other problems (blockage/leak in the line) may be causing the problem as well so check ALL components.
Or, if the shop DID mention it was the A/C evaporator, JimKW gave you all you need to know.
I hope this helps.
