I have a problem that shows up intermittently. Sometimes, while cruising at around 30-40mph, if I accelerate harshly (like joining a hi-way) the engine cuts off at around 4500 rpm, then picks-up and then cuts off again, jerking the car . This can happen at 2nd, 3rd or even 4th gear. This also happens, although less frequently, while accelerating from standstill. Computer has no messages. fuel filters, plugs, etc are already changed.

 

I forgot, the car is '97 T5 auto trans

 

I would try to purchase a cheap fuel pressure guage and hook it up to the car.Try to set it bye the bottom of the windsheild take it out and see if something happens to the fuel pressure when tha car acts up.Also another indication that the fuel pump would be bad. Is after you park and let the car sit overnight the fuel pressure should be the same as when you turned it off the night before.If not that might be and electrical problem.Does any dash lights come on or does the radio stop playing or does anything else happen.
